From 12th January 2010 online requesting for books and journal articles will be processed via the Voyager Library Catalogue. Full instructions of how to do this will be sent out nearer the date.

The current system will no longer be supported as of 31st December 2009. You can continue using the Online Requesting Service up until the 12th January as long as it is still working (we have no idea if it will). Please contact the Duthie Library 02920 742875  if the system fails to generate a copyright declaration form or if you are unable to login.

Attached is an Inter Library Loan request form that you can fill in manually, sign then send to us. We are not recieving post until 4th January so anything urgent should be faxed 02920 743651 or scanned and emailed to dls@cf.ac.uk.

Hopefully this won’t inconvenience you too much, apologies if it does. I’m sure you will all prefer using the new system which does not require the sending of copyright declaration forms, hurrah!

Essential maintenance will be carried out on the Site Access Router Saturday 12th December between 8am and 12pm. During this period all internet services will be affected, you may be unable to do the following:

• Send email to outside the University
• Receive email from outside the University (Note that mail would be queued)
• Access e-resources on and off-campus
• Access the University website

Thomson Reuters will be performing an upgrade to EndNote Web starting Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at 9:00PM EST ending by Sunday, Nov. 22, 10:00AM EST. During this time, EndNote Web will be unavailable.

For those of you who use our Literature Requesting Service there is a new service available from the British Library.

At present when you fill in the online requesting form and we get articles from the British Library they are mainly sent in the post directly from the British Library, however it is now possible to receive these directly electronically from the British Library.  This should mean that you get your articles quicker.

If you want to do this please go to the following website http://fileopen.bl.uk where you will need to download a plugin (the top link).  Once that is installed, then download the test document (bottom link) to make sure that it has worked correctly.

If you then email the distance learning account dls@cf.ac.uk to let us know that you would like to receive articles that way in the future.

As you are aware there is to be a new medical education centre on the Heath Park site which will house a new purpose-built library.  The new library will incorporate the current provision of the Sir Herbert Duthie Library, the Nursing and Healthcare Studies Library (both on the UHW site) and the School of Nursing and Midwifery Library currently situated in the Caerleon Education Centre, Newport.  
 
We are sending this email to all Schools to be served by the new library inviting suggestions for a new library name.  The proposed name for the new medical education centre is the ‘Cochrane building’.  Since we already have the ‘Archie Cochrane Library’ in Llandough we need to think of something different for this one.  Thoughts of a name for the library have so far focused upon either names which describe what can be found in the library (such as resources or subject areas) or names of prominent figures in healthcare.  
 
We are looking for a name which is exciting and innovative but also fits the purpose of our library as a hub for the provision of Medical, Nursing and Healthcare information, both electronic and print, for the whole of Wales.  If you are up for the challenge we would love to hear from you and as a further temptation there is a prize up for grabs for the person who suggests the name used.
