As you are aware there is to be a new medical education centre on the Heath Park site which will house a new purpose-built library.  The new library will incorporate the current provision of the Sir Herbert Duthie Library, the Nursing and Healthcare Studies Library (both on the UHW site) and the School of Nursing and Midwifery Library currently situated in the Caerleon Education Centre, Newport.  
 
We are sending this email to all Schools to be served by the new library inviting suggestions for a new library name.  The proposed name for the new medical education centre is the ‘Cochrane building’.  Since we already have the ‘Archie Cochrane Library’ in Llandough we need to think of something different for this one.  Thoughts of a name for the library have so far focused upon either names which describe what can be found in the library (such as resources or subject areas) or names of prominent figures in healthcare.  
 
We are looking for a name which is exciting and innovative but also fits the purpose of our library as a hub for the provision of Medical, Nursing and Healthcare information, both electronic and print, for the whole of Wales.  If you are up for the challenge we would love to hear from you and as a further temptation there is a prize up for grabs for the person who suggests the name used.

Since yesterday there has been a problem with Metalib. This was thought to have been resolved yesterday afternoon, but unfortunately the problem persists. Please access e-resources via the Information Resources tab within the MWE for the time being. Apologies for the inconvenience.

We are producing some publicity to advertise our ebooks and ejournals and we’re looking for some positive comments from students. If you have any good feedback for us please could you post a comment here or email dls@cf.ac.uk.

There appears to be a problem with logging into the MWE if your password contains non-alphanumeric characters in passwords. Therefore, passwords should only contain characters [a-z0-9}.

To access the full text of Cochrane reviews you need to follow the instructions depending on where you live. If you live in the UK you should be able to gain full text just by following the link from the Databases page.

If you live outside of the UK, follow the Access to Cochrane link from the Cochrane Library homepage then select your geographic area form the list and follow the instructions for that area.

We will not be posting books out today or tomorrow due to the postal strike. Any requests we receive from today will be posted out Monday.

Please don’t pay for any articles, if we don’t have an online subscription apply for them via the online requesting service - contact dls@cf.ac.uk to get your barcode and password.

SCONUL Access is a scheme that allows distance learners and part-time students to borrow books from their local academic library. To join this scheme check to see if your local University/College library is a member  http://www.access.sconul.ac.uk/members then fill in a membership form and post/fax it to us at the Distance Learning Service.

The scheme is only available to UK and Ireland residents.
